I was wondering if using the Ikalizer or VBO client was approved for league use or not.
I read the rules in my quest for this knowledge. I'm just trying to understand it correctly.

The rules state under 4.6 Client Requirements:

In order to be eligible for match play, clients must:

- Be running the latest FTW approved version ioUrbanTerror

- Have all fun stuff turned off

- Be running a pure unaltered version of Urban Terror

What is/are the latest approved version(s) of ioUrbanTerror? Is it strictly the official 4.1 .exe?
If this was covered elsewhere I'm sorry I missed it. I ran a couple of searches but couldn't find anything about this.

You raise a good question. There's supposed to be a section of the rules called "Approved Game Version" (or something like that) that would list what version is the approved version.

But no, we haven't been specific enough yet about the clients and servers. My personal preference would probably be to have to use the latest (vulnerabitliy patch version) of iourbanterror.exe. But people could be using the UAA version, or ikalizer, or ioquake3, etc. I haven't looked into it, but *probably* we won't be able to restrict what client exe people use (because I don't think there's any way to reliably check what client exe people are using anyway).

So I don't have an answer for you, but yeah the league needs to get more specific on this issue before the season begins.

Actually was talking about this today. It's looking like ikalizer, the offical iourt client, and q3 client will be acceptable versions of Urban Terror

Just to chime in, VDAC will let you know what versions people are using, and currently it's limited to only the latest iourbanterror executable. This will be changed to allow anything the admins allow in their leagues.

At ALPHA we've been running ioQ servers for a while because of their better ban commands and all that new stuff that's sadly lacking in the ancient ioUrbanTerror 4.1 executable. I compile my own server executable because I add extra space for more bans. Of course the server is otherwise unchanged. ioQ is stable and I've never heard of anyone with problems. The weird memory leaks seem to be gone too, so good for us. Sorry for ranting. :-D

I assume this includes the new ioq3-urt version?

For now the rules are non-specific on this issue, but maybe before next season we'll get them clarified on this.
